The second edition of Uranium Film Festival, India has till now traveled to five cities with the top institutions of country like National institute of Design, Ahmedabad, St. Francis College for Women and Annapurna International School of Film and Media Hyderabad, School of communication, Manipal, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Films Division, Mumbai. Apart from screening of excellent films, a photo exhibition by Ashish Birulee on uranium mining in Jadugoda was part of the Uranium Film Festival. INFO>
In addition to this, a panel discussion in each city with eminent personalities and local activists participating in it was another attraction of the festival. Famous Telugu Actress Amala Akkineni, Veteran Documentary film maker Anand Patwardhan, eminent scientist Dr. K. Babau Rao, Dr. Suvrat Raju, Dr. Satya Lakshmi, Senior faculty for film and video Mr. Arun Gupta and many others not only participated but become part of the festival.
IUFF 2014 now prepares to set its foot in Jharkhand with steel city- Tata Nagar being its next destination.
Here also, the fest would be a three-day event starting from 29th April and continuing till 1st May. The event would be organized in the premise of Karim City College, Jamshedpur in collaboration with the institution’s Department of Mass Communication.
This would be the second time when IUFF will travel to Jharkhand post its inaugural venture last year when it was organized in the capital of the state, Ranchi.
International Uranium Film Festival was founded in the year 2010 in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro by a journalist and film- maker Dr. Norbert G. Suchanek who is the International Director of it. It is the first festival of its kind that addresses all nuclear and radioactive issues. Art, science and awareness this the main theme of the festival, and the aim is to inform masses about different facets of nuclear industry and health hazards of radio activity.
It would be a different experience for the Indian Coordinator of the festival Mr. Shriprakash, National Award Winner Film maker to conduct the event in Jharkhand, which happens to be his home state. Shriprakash has made several documentaries and a fiction film on different social issues including those over nuclear industry. He has also been associated with Jadugoda since last two decades, and documented the situation of Jadugoda in two his documentaries- - Buddha Weeps in Jadugoda- 1999 and Jadugoda- the Black Magic- 2009 which has created a widespread stir among different sections of the society, including high and mighty.
Various genres of motion pictures revolving around nuclear industry, nuclear fuel chains and effects of mining and milling would be screened in the festival here. A panel discussion has also been planned for the last day of the fest. The panel will consist of people like Mr. Ghanshyam Birulee, Mr. Bhaskar Rao and Mr. Rajesh Rai as experts and Neha Tiwari, as the moderator.
