Next year, on September 13, 2027, marks the 40th anniversary of the Goiânia accident with highly radioactive cesium-137. For this reason, we are dedicating the 16th International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro to the victims of this worst radioactive accident in the history of Brazil.
"The symptoms of the cesium victims in Goiânia are basically the same as those observed in Hiroshima after the bomb, except without the effects of the heat and blast“, said doctor Hirofuji Michio from the Hiroshima Memorial Hospital. He did visit Goiânia three months after the accident.
Festival dates: May 20, 2027 to May 29, 2027, at the Cinematheque of the Modern Art Museum of Rio de Janeiro (MAM Rio).
Filmmakers and producers can still submit their films to the festival via FilmFreeway. https://filmfreeway.com/InternationalUraniumFilmFestival
