80 years Atomic Bombs

15 years International Uranium Film Festival

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the first Atomic Bomb explosion 210 miles south of Los Alamos and the subsequent nuclear destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The 2010 founded International Uranium Film Festival (IUFF) also known as the Atomic Age Cinema Fest now invites filmmakers to submit their works for its 14th edition, which will take place in this commemorative year 2025 from May 17 to 31 at the Cinematheque of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. Further festivals are planned in 2025 in USA, Wales and in Berlin.

The competitve festival is dedicated to all films about the history and risks of nuclear power and radioactivity: from uranium mining to nuclear waste, from atomic bombs to nuclear accidents, from Hiroshima to Fukushima, from Marie Curie to Julius Robert Oppenheimer. The festival is open for all genres and lengths. Documentary, Fiction, Comedy, Animation. It is not mandatory that the movies are new productions.
Deadline for the film entry is December 31, 2024.

All award winners receive the festival trophy: a piece of art produced by Brazilian waste-material-artist Getúlio Damado who lives and works in the famous artist quarter Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro where the first International Uranium Film Festival was held in May 2011. For more than a decade Getúlio collects garbage and transforms it into "gold". Meanwhile his waste-art is part of exhibitions not only in Rio de Janeiro but also in São Paulo and other parts of the world. Getúlio creates the award from waste material that he finds in the streets of Santa Teresa. He uses also old watches to remember the first atomic bomb dropped over Hiroshima. Watches in Hiroshima stopped exactly at 8:15 in the morning when the A-bomb exploded on August 6th, 1945.
