"Little Tokyo" is a very special district in Düsseldorf, home to the third largest Japanese community in Europe and venue for the Düsseldorf edition of the International Uranium Film Festival (IUFF), which took place for the ninth time on October 17th in the Bambi FilmStudio. Seven films were screened, covering topics such as Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Fukushima, as well as the risks of nuclear war. https://www.visitduesseldorf.de/en/experience/sights/little-tokyo
The festival drew a select audience of 40 to 50 people who attended the screenings at the Bambi Filmstudio. „Many were members of established organisations such as IPPNW, GfBV (Gesellschaft für bedrohte Völker), Sayonara-Genpatsu-Düsseldorf, Sayonara-Nukes-Düsseldorf and GLS-Treuhand Bochum“, says local organizer Makiko Hamaguchi-Klenner. „There were lively discussions before and after the films.“ The audience at the 9th Little Tokyo Uranium Film Festival voted Greg Mitchell’s documentary “Atomic Cover-Up” as the best entry of this year’s edition.
Since 2013 the International Uranium Film Festival has become a respectfully event in Düsseldorf's Little Tokyo, organized by Japanese Makiko Hamaguchi-Klenner, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of East Asian Studies at Ruhr University Bochum. Makiko is also the festival’s consultant for Chinese and Japanese films and member of the IUFF Jury.
The Uranium Film Festival depends on the support from individuals around the globe.
