Matinee on nuclear tests and their consequences with Nuclear Savage
In 2025 we will see the 80th anniversary of the katastrophic US atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In addition over 2,000 atmospheric nuclear weapons tests worldwide have led to immeasurable environmental damage and human suffering. Four years ago, on January 22nd, 2021, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPT) came into force. It represents a high point in the years-long, global struggle to ban nuclear weapons. Nevertheles the threat of nuclear war, which has never been greater than it is today.
The focus of the matinee is Adam Jonas Horowitz's documentary „Nuclear Savage: The Islands of Secret Project 4.1“.
The IUFF award-winning film (short version 56 min.) tells the story of the US nuclear bomb tests on the Marshall Islands. The local population was abused in a secret project for radiological experiments and investigations. The film deals with this project as well as with the population's struggle for recognition of the injustice suffered.
After the film, Prof. Manfred Mohr (IALANA) and Juliane Hauschulz (IPPNW) will discuss with the audience.
Moderation: Aicha Kheinette (ICAN).
